Where did the smiles of the Saudis go?

A recent study conducted by Align Technology, a global medical device company that designs, manufactures and markets the Invisalign® system, revealed that Saudis have a high level of confidence in terms of their overall appearance, except for their smile. They also view a smile as the most attractive trait in a person, but only a few have the confidence to smile in front of others.

According to the survey of professionals between the ages of 18 and 45, Saudis pride themselves on their personal appearance, with 81% of them saying they always care about looking their best. They are also happy with how they look, with 77% of them feeling satisfied and comfortable with their looks and clothes.

Despite their high confidence in outward appearance, study participants were somewhat unhappy about their smiles. Only 26% of them reported that their smile is their most attractive personality trait. This seems to be a great contradiction, especially since the majority of respondents (84%) consider the smile the most attractive trait in a man or a woman.
Smile to make the world smile at you!
According to the Society for Psychological Sciences (i) there is a basic insight into why people notice a smile before any other personality trait. As social creatures, the smile is an essential component of communication within human society. From a very early stage starting at eight weeks, a child learns to smile as a form of social bonding with family members.
On average, Saudi adults say they smile about 30 times a day, which tends to be normal among adults around the world. To put this more clearly, children, on average, tend to smile about 400 times a day.

So where did all those smiles go? Do we change our behavior as we age? Do we become unhappy when we grow up, or is there a reason that has more to do with vital functions?
While the majority of respondents in the Saudi Arabian survey agreed that the way they smile affects their social life, two-thirds of respondents indicated that they hide or do not show their smile when communicating with others, because they are not confident of it.

While almost half (43%) of the survey respondents consider a sincere and honest smile to be the perfect smile, only 8% regularly show a full smile on social media channels, despite being very active users.
“Your smile is one of your most important personality traits, as it is the first thing that people notice when they meet you for the first time,” says Dr. Firas Sallas, one of the region’s leading orthodontists and medical director at Cham Dental Clinic. Not only does it affect the way people perceive you, but it also improves your mood and releases those wonderful, positive chemicals in your brain. You really have to make sure you take care of your smile, and most importantly feel confident about it. For this reason, we have adopted the Invisalign aligner system in the treatments offered by Cham Dental Clinic. We want to help customers have a new, beautiful smile.”

The Invisalign system is a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment that straightens teeth for adults, adolescents and younger patients who have mixed teeth from an early stage. The system has a dedicated mechanism to move the teeth little by little, straightening them gently and accurately. Whether a simple improvement or a more extensive adjustment is needed, the clear, customizable, removable orthodontic chain moves the teeth, or rotates them if necessary.

Each orthodontic device in the series is custom-made to fit the patient's teeth, and when each set of braces is replaced, the teeth will move - little by little - until their final position. With no metal wires or supports, orthotics can be easily removed when eating, drinking, brushing or flossing normally, allowing the flexibility necessary to live an active lifestyle.

The Invisalign system uses XNUMXD software that creates a virtual treatment plan from start to finish, which your doctor will modify and approve. This treatment plan shows a series of movements that the teeth are expected to undergo from their current position to the desired final position. This allows the patient to view their own virtual plan and see what the teeth might look like once the treatment process is completed.
