Will designer technology drive the shopping frenzy?

Headphones are pretty utilitarian. But more often than not, a version comes up that causes a bit of madness: We saw it with the beats of Dr. Dre, we saw it with Apple. And now, with Louis Vuitton entering the headphone game, are we about to see it again?

The French fashion house has just announced the launch of wireless earbuds, a technological crossover in which the latest high-end luxury technology meets. They sell for a pretty penny ($995), but perhaps the lure of a designer who's spinning around an everyday instrument — developed by audio professionals and masters — is enough to make people take the plunge. A single charge gives 3.5 hours of listening time.

They come in four different styles, ranging from subtle black and white to eye-catching red monograms and blue and yellow LV stripes.
