The history of the Baselworld fair dates back to 1917, when it was launched under the name of the Schweizer Musttermesse Basel muba, where a section was devoted to watches and jewelry. And in 1925, many watchmakers were invited, before 1931 came in which for the first time a special pavilion for Swiss watches was held at the “Schweizer Orenmesse” or the Swiss Watch Fair.

After the European Forum exhibition in 1972, companies from France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom were invited, and in 1983 the exhibition changed its name to BASEL and next to the name were two numbers indicating the year in which it was held, such as Basel 83 or BASEL 83.

In 1986, companies from outside Europe were introduced for the first time, reflecting the increasing number of visitors from outside the old continent. In 1995, the name of the exhibition was changed to Basel 95 - the International Exhibition of Wristwatches, Wall Clocks and Jewelery. In 1999, a new exhibition hall was added with an area 36 thousand square meters, and the year 2000 witnessed an increase of 6% in commercial visitors.

In 2003, the exhibition was renamed “Basel World, the Watch and Jewelery Show.” A year later, or in 2004, with the introduction of a new hall complex, the area of ​​Baselworld increased to 160 square meters, attracting more than 89 visitors.

The Baselworld International Trade Fair of Watches and Jewelery, which is organized every spring in Basel, Switzerland, includes about 2100 watch houses from more than 45 countries, including a number of the world's largest watch and jewelry brands, as well as companies specializing in precious stones, and the exhibition attracts more than 94,000 visitor.

On a global scale, the Basel World Exhibition and the SIHH International Salon of Fine Watches, which is held approximately two months before Baselworld and usually in Geneva, are the two most important events in the industry annually to showcase the innovations of watches and jewelry, noting that SIHH was first launched in 1991.

This year, the Basel Fair celebrates its first centenary, as it will open its doors on the XNUMXnd of March.
