Journalist Martin Bashir, who is facing criticism over the fiery interview with Princess Diana in 1995, apologized on Sunday to the two sons of the late Princess William and Harry, but considered it "illogical" to link what happened during the meeting to her tragic death.

In an interview with the "Sunday Times" newspaper, Martin Bashir expressed "deep regret" towards the sons of Princess William and Harry. "I never wanted to hurt Diana in any way, and I don't think we did," he said.

Bashir told the newspaper that there were secretly taped stories and phone calls in the early XNUMXs prior to the interview, and he was not the source for any of them.

Bashir confirmed that Princess Diana was never upset with the content of the interview, noting that the bonds of friendship between him and the princess remained connected after the interview was broadcast.

Bashir testified to this by saying that Diana then visited his wife in a south London hospital on the day of the birth of their third child.

Bashir said: "All the interview took place as she wanted, starting with her desire to inform the palace, to broadcasting the interview, passing through its content."

Regarding revealing false bank statements to Earl Spencer, the princess's brother, Bashir said: "Obviously I'm sorry about that, it was a mistake. But it had no effect on anything, it had no effect on [Diana], and it had no effect on the interview.”

Asked if he would ever be able to forgive himself, Bashir reportedly replied, "Really, that's a tough question because it was a big mistake... I hope to be given the opportunity to appropriately regret what happened."
