What are the reasons for feeling a strong desire to eat sugar?

Most of us sometimes feel an urgent desire to eat sweets, as the body may need sugars, but when this turns into an addiction, it is due to some reasons, which are:

Stress

Stress is one of the fastest influences on the dietary pattern, as the release of cortisol, which increases its level in the blood due to stress, anxiety and depression, leads to the instability of the blood sugar level, rising and falling. Compulsive eating, especially sweets.

psychological reasons

Stimulating the secretion of serotonin When sugar is eaten, insulin is released and binds with amino acids and then together they go to the muscles. This releases tryptophan, which the brain uses to produce serotonin, so sugar makes some people feel happy after eating sweets.

hormonal fluctuations

Sugar raises the level of endorphins in the brain, which has the ability to relieve pain, and therefore the sugar insatiability associated with premenstrual syndrome in women leads to cravings for foods rich in sugar, and this is due to the low levels of endorphins in them.

Gastrointestinal disorders

An imbalance in the work of the beneficial bacteria that live in the intestines can lead to an increase in the growth of yeast and fungi, and therefore this excess growth requires an increase in sugar, in addition to that, the sensitivity of the body to certain foods that differ from one body to another may cause an imbalance in the blood sugar level and what accompanies that of sugar cravings.

Physiological reasons

This occurs during the digestion process after eating a meal, as the process of digesting food needs a large amount of energy to complete it, and therefore it will give a signal of its need for immediate energy, which is in the form of the body’s request for sweets, which is meant by sugar, as it is a quick source of energy, and this It is the reason why we want or need to eat sweets or sugar after lunch.

stress

As physical activity needs energy, and therefore the body translates this need into a desire to eat sugars, and also mental stress and concentration for long periods increases the brain’s need for energy and the body translates its need as well by requesting sugars.
