What are the causes of delayed speech in children?

- Watching television for long hours, especially channels that take the nature of songs and loud music, make the child a passive recipient who is only interested in music and movements and does not make him initiate to speak.
- Repeating the wrong words that the child says and not fixing them makes the child hear the wrong words over and over again and keeps repeating them by mistake.
- Not paying attention to the issue of hearing, as there are signs that alert us to the presence of a hearing problem, such as approaching the speaking person or looking at the movement of his lips until he realizes the speech or his lack of response when we call him from a second room that makes the child lose many sounds and do not fully comprehend the speech.
- Not conversing with the child from the first months, thinking that he does not understand our words, makes the child lack vocabulary and does not store enough linguistic output to start speaking at the age of one year.
- Not to integrate him with children outside the home, for fear of him, especially when there are no siblings or relatives who make the child withdrawn and does not want to talk.
- Introducing more than one language to the child at random, irregularly and at a very young age, which makes the child dispersed between languages and unable to build an adequate linguistic system and sound rules for each language separately.
- Excessive pampering of the child and responding to his requests by simply referring to them makes him dependent, even in his words, he does not have to think or memorize the names of even his basic needs.
- Not naming the things he sees daily (hanging, pants, chair, etc...) makes the child's vocabulary very poor and limited to some words.
One of the most important recommendations is reading stories to our children and building a dialogue with them since the age of infancy, and giving complete, simple and clear sentences so that the child understands and acquires speech properly.
