A research team from New York University conducted a study and comparisons about the most common tips to help you sleep, and concluded a result published in the journal Sleep Health, stating that there are many false beliefs about sleep that ultimately lead to harm in the body.

The common mistake is that if you are trying hard to fall asleep, stay in bed, but what should be done, according to the study, is not to continue this attempt if it takes more than a quarter of an hour, in this case you should change the environment and carry out work that does not require you mental effort.

The second myth about sleep is that watching TV in bed helps you relax, and this is a misconception, as watching TV can cause you insomnia and stress, and the blue light from TVs and smartphones delays the production of the sleep hormone.

A third misconception is that you can go about your day with less than 5 hours of sleep. Merkel and Thatcher were, but that doesn't mean it's the healthy recipe for success. Rather, this is the most harmful myth because it carries a potential risk of heart disease and stroke.

The fourth misconception is to stop the alarm in the hope of returning to sleep, and the research team advises to get up as soon as the alarm bell rings because the extra minutes of sleep will not be of the same depth and quality.

Finally, the fifth common mistake associated with sound sleep is “snoring,” and this is not true. Snoring indicates breathing disorders, and the snorer often has high blood pressure or an irregular heartbeat. So if you want a sound sleep, you must first enjoy sound health.
