New Zealand declares victory and is free of Corona

Today, Monday, New Zealand's Ministry of Health announced that the country is free of any known active cases of COVID-19.

The ministry said in a statement that the last remaining case was a woman from Auckland, who has not had symptoms for 48 hours and is considered to have recovered.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said people are now able to leave isolation.

"This is really good news for an interested person, and it's also something the rest of New Zealand can applaud."

Bloomfield added that the lack of active cases for the first time since February was an "important milestone in our journey."

"But as we said earlier, continued vigilance against COVID-19 will continue to be necessary," he explained.

It has been 17 days since the last case was announcedinfection  New COVID-19 cases in New Zealand.
