One Euro for a House in Italy: Fact or Fiction?

Yes, the price of a house in Italy is one euro, and this is a fact and not a fantasy. One of the most beautiful cities in Italy and Europe has provided a fantasy-like opportunity for those who wish to live in it or own real estate, as the cost of buying a residential house is only one euro (1.1 US dollars), in a precedent that has not been witnessed Like the whole of Europe.

According to information published by the British newspaper "Daily Mail", the local authorities in the city of Musumeli in the south of the country offered 500 properties for sale for only one euro each, but all of these properties are deserted and need to be restored.

The only condition for those who wish to own the property for one euro is to pledge to restore and repair it within a maximum period of 3 years from the date of purchase.

Mussomeli is located to the south of the island of Sicily, originally in the far south of Italy. The city is about 950 km from the capital, Rome, and it takes more than 10 hours to travel by car from Rome.

It seems that the local authorities in Mussomeli found the sale of these houses at such a low price as an opportunity to revitalize the commercial and economic movement in the city, as the restoration of 500 houses in this small city means employment of the unemployed and revitalizing the commercial movement for years in this city.

And the "Daily Mail" said that the authorities in Mussomeli have already put 100 abandoned properties for sale, with another 400 homes to be offered during the coming period.

The authorities require each buyer to put an amount of $8 in insurance in order to guarantee that he will repair the house within three years from the date of purchase, provided that the buyer loses this insurance if he fails to repair the house within the specified period.

According to the newspaper, the process of renovating the house costs about 107 dollars per square foot, and an amount ranging from four thousand dollars to 6450 dollars must be paid in “administrative fees” in order to own the house.

The move came after Italians left rural areas for cities in recent years, as Mussomeli's population has halved over the past three decades, with only 1300 people left in the city, most of them elderly and childless.

But the small city is also a beautiful tourist place for those wishing to live in the European countryside, as it is only two hours from the famous city of Palermo, and there are Byzantine caves, a medieval castle and many ancient churches in the area.
