Does a cold affect your skin dehydration?

The skin tends to dry out when suffering from winter diseases such as colds, influenza, or the common cold. What is the reason for this and how can this situation be addressed?

Winter illnesses are usually associated with headache and throat pain, coughing, runny nose, and high body temperature. This period is tiring and disturbing on the health level, but it also greatly affects the skin of the face and body, which becomes drier.

What is the relationship between winter diseases and dry skin?

During the winter, the skin is exposed to multiple problems, most notably redness, dryness, and loss of suppleness. These symptoms increase when suffering from winter diseases that require a period of convalescence at home. In this case, the skin lacks the vitamin D that it gets when exposed to the sun, and colds and influenza diseases increase the dryness of the skin, which can also be affected by the type of medicines that are taken to alleviate these health problems.

Healthy skin consists of 30 percent water, which allows it to maintain its suppleness, and a decrease in this percentage causes its roughness. Dermatologists usually distinguish between dry skin and lifeless skin. The former lacks sebum secretions and suffers from a loss of suppleness, while the latter suffers from a loss of moisture. And she needs to get external moisturizing elements through creams and internally by drinking liquids and eating vegetables and fruits that contain a high percentage of water.

Skin care during a cold:

Dryness of the skin is associated with the common cold, but some tricks are sufficient to combat dehydration in this field, including: Moisturizing the skin regularly and indiscriminately by using a moisturizing cream with a rich formula. It is also recommended to avoid washing the skin with very hot water, as it increases its dryness, and to use moderate temperature water for bathing, adding a little Epsom salt to it, which helps to relax in addition to exfoliating and moisturizing the skin. It is necessary to dry the skin well after showering and then use a moisturizing cream on it. It is also possible to use a machine to humidify the air in the house if it is present, especially when operating heating systems that increase the dryness of the skin. It is necessary to make sure to be exposed to sunlight as much as possible to secure the body's sufficiency of vitamin D.

Moisturizing first and foremost:

Moisturizing the skin is an essential step to provide it with protection in addition to protecting it from dryness and premature aging. To compensate for the lack of moisture that the skin is exposed to during the cold and flu, it is recommended to use highly moisturizing lotions that can also be beneficial to the skin throughout the winter season.

Hyaluronic acid is one of the skin's most important ingredients in the field of hydration, it is found naturally in the body and its molecules hold up to 100 times their weight in water. The production of this acid in the body decreases with the passage of time, and therefore it is necessary to compensate for this deficiency by using rich care products. You can also use aloe vera, which refreshes and soothes the skin very quickly, or even choose a lotion that combines these two ingredients for maximum hydration.

Moisturizing serums are also useful preparations to combat skin dryness, as their liquid formula is easy to penetrate deep into the skin, and new types of lotions known as Cosmetic Waters or “cosmetic water” can be used, which are very rich in water, their formula turns into a liquid when applied to the skin. A fast-acting hydration booster with high efficacy in this field.
