Kate Middleton speaks sadly about her husband and children

Princess of Wales Kate Middleton announced on Friday that she had been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 42 and is currently undergoing “preventive” chemotherapy.

In an emotional video message that sparked an outpouring of sympathy on social media, filmed in Windsor on Wednesday, Catherine revealed that the news came as a “huge shock” and that she and William were “doing everything we could to process and manage the matter privately for the sake of our young family.”

The Prince of Wales's absence from the St George's Chapel event at Windsor Castle on February 27 raised eyebrows and oddities, but tonight's revelation about the Princess's health shed light on why he stayed away. Kate was diagnosed with cancer, which was revealed tonight after Buckingham Palace initially said her condition was non-cancerous the previous month.

Royal aides are now expected to rally around William even more as he steps back from his frontline duties and care for the couple's children while his wife recovers. The prince has already adjusted his royal duties to devote more time to his family after Kate was first admitted to a London clinic in January.

It came days after she was seen smiling with Prince William as they left their favorite farm shop near their home in Windsor, and she said her husband had been a “huge source of comfort and reassurance” during her battle with cancer.

“We took some time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was right for them, and to reassure them that I would be fine,” the future queen said, speaking from a bench surrounded by daffodils and spring flowers.

'As I told them; I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; In my mind, body and soul. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance as well. As with the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you it means so much to us both.

Catherine's cancer was only discovered after she underwent major abdominal surgery at a London clinic in January.

Kensington Palace said it would not share details about what type of cancer the princess has, or at what stage of cancer, and asked people not to speculate.

It is clear that the King, who is also currently undergoing cancer treatment, and the Queen have been informed of the news.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the Princess of Wales had the "love and support of the whole country" as her battle with cancer was revealed this evening and good wishes came from around the world, including from the White House.

At the time of the abdominal surgery in January, Kensington Palace said it was non-cancerous. However, post-operative tests later found that the cancer “was present.”

This evening's announcement will send shockwaves around the world as it comes after weeks of speculation and conspiracy theories about her health.

It also creates a new crisis for the British royal family at a time when King Charles is also battling cancer.

The princess is now on what has been described as a “recovery path” after starting a course of chemotherapy in late February.
