Tomb near Marilyn Monroe's grave is up for auction at a fantastic price

 

The Wall Street Journal reported that a granite tomb in the Star Cemetery in Westwood Memorial Village Park in California is up for auction with a starting price of $2 million.

The reason for the fictional price of the tomb for sale is that it is adjacent to the graves of international actress Marilyn Monroe and journalist Hugh Hefner and will be sold by the family of theatrical composer Jerry Herman.

The newspaper added that Hermann bought the tomb in 1997 to be buried in it, and its price at that time was $75.

But after he was diagnosed with HIV, he changed his mind and recommended in his final days that he be buried in a grave next to his mother's grave in New Jersey when he died in 2019 at the age of 88.

Now the Hermann family wants to sell the tomb, through his daughter Doriat, who handled the sale, while trying to entice people who want to buy it by saying, "It's next to the two sexiest people alive."

The Hermann family's tomb for sale isn't the first of its kind to be offered at a fancy price. An American widow sold the grave in which her husband Richard Poncher is buried directly above Monroe's grave for $4.6 million on eBay in 2009.

Puncher bought his grave from baseball star Joe Dimaggio, Monroe's ex-husband, who divorced her in 1954.

Ms. Elsie Boncher told Reuters she sold the tomb, which is located in an area where celebrity cemeteries are crowded, in order to pay off her debts.

The auction opened at the time with $500, but eventually reached $4.6 million, so Hermann's grave is expected to sell for more than $2 million.

Westwood Memorial Village is home to the remains of many famous people, including Dean Martin, James Coburn, Roy Orbison, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood and Carl Wilson.
