Caffeine..for your health, strength and energy

A review of previous research found that taking caffeine before exercise may improve performance for a wide range of exercises.

The researchers wrote in the British Journal of Sports Medicine that it has properties that can in particular enhance speed, energy, strength and endurance.

“Caffeine-containing supplements are very popular among athletes,” said Jozo Gercic, lead researcher from the University of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. A study dating back to 2011 revealed that about 75% of the urine samples of athletes who participated in the Olympic Games contain high levels of it.”

In 2004, caffeine was removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances during competition.

"Since then, caffeine intake has increased among athletes and there are no indications that this has subsided," Gercic told Reuters by email.

Jerjek and colleagues also conducted a comprehensive review of the results of previous reviews that analyzed several studies related to him and athletic performance.

They discovered that taking it improved muscle endurance, strength, jumping performance, and exercise speed.

"As a general rule of thumb, two cups of coffee about 60 minutes before the start of exercise has a strong effect on most individuals," Gercic added.
