Sabah Fihri is one of the tops of Syria and the Arab world, the late great Sabah al-Din Abu Qus, born in 1933, in the city of Aleppo, one of the most important centers of Arab oriental music. His talent appeared in the first decade of his life, and he studied singing and music with his general studies at that early age at the Aleppo Institute of Music and then at the Damascus Institute. He graduated from the Oriental Musical Institute in 1948 in Damascus, after studying muwashshahat, rhythms, Samah dance, poems, roles, solfege and playing the oud. Among his professors, prominent Arab musicians, were the great Syrian musicians, Sheikh Ali Al-Darwish, Sheikh Omar Al-Batsh, Majdi Al-Aqili, Nadim, Ibrahim Al-Darwish, Muhammad Rajab and Aziz Ghannam. In his youth, he was an employee of the endowment of Aleppo and a muezzin in the Rawda mosque there.
