The team found that those with high cholesterol had an increased risk of developing dementia by 27% on average. The researchers say that The risk increases with age.

The normal level of cholesterol in the blood is considered 40-50 milligrams for men, and 50-60 milligrams for women, and the study team found that approximately 15% of participants (2,709 people) had 80 milligrams, which is a high level of cholesterol.

The researchers concluded that the association of cholesterol with dementia remained significant even after adjusting for other factors such as age, gender, education, and daily exercise. However, the research team said that this does not prove that cholesterol causes an increase in dementia, but there is evidence of a link.
