A Russian nutrition expert warned against washing watermelons before you start cutting them, as this may lead to many intestinal problems.

Nutrition expert Antonina Starodubova said that the outer casing of the red and yellow watermelon should be washed with warm soapy water, to avoid the transfer of microbes from the surface to the pulp when cutting these fruits.

She stressed that such microbes can cause the emergence of intestinal infection.

Starodubova, who holds the position of chief nutritionist at the Moscow Health Directorate, added: “Before cutting the watermelon, its outer surface must be thoroughly washed with warm water and soap, since there is a high risk of microbes reaching from the surface to the pulp when cutting, which may lead to infection of the person who eats it. Intestinal. It is not permissible to eat watermelons that have been damaged during transportation or storage, or if the color of the pulp raises suspicion or has an unusual smell.

She stressed that it is necessary to protect the surface of the watermelon from pollution and from flying insects because they can be carriers of microbes that can cause various infectious diseases and food poisoning.

The expert said: “It is not permissible to eat watermelon with seeds, because the rind of watermelon seeds, especially yellow watermelon, is very tough, which can cause problems in the digestive system.”
