When Gabrielle was 12, her mother died of tuberculosis. Her father sent his two sons to work on farms and sent his three daughters to an orphanage, where she learned to sew.

When she was eighteen and moved to live in a boarding house for Catholic girls, she worked as a singer in a cabaret frequented by French officers, and there she got her nickname "Coco".

At the age of twenty, Chanel was introduced to Balsan, who offered to help her start her own business in Paris. Soon she left him and moved in with his richer friend "Kabal".

Chanel opened its first store on the Cambon Street in Paris in 1910, and began selling hats. Then the clothes.

And her first success in clothes was due to the recycling of a dress she designed from an old winter shirt. In response to the many people who asked her where she got that dress, she said I made my fortune out of that old shirt I was wearing.

In 1920 she launched her first famous perfume “No. 5, with a partnership of only 10% for it, 20% for the owner of the “Bader” store, who promoted the perfume, and 70% for the perfume factory “Wertheimer”, and after massive sales, Coco filed a lawsuit against the two companies repeatedly to renegotiate the terms of the deal, and to this day this partnership remains List, but without conditions.

It presented the world with the black suit and short black dresses at a time when colors were the march in that period, with an emphasis on making women's clothes more comfortable.

In 1925, Chanel showcased its legendary design of a collarless jacket and skirt set in the same fabric as the jacket. Her designs were revolutionary as she borrowed and modified men's designs so that they were comfortable to wear by women with feminine touches.

During the German occupation of France, Chanel was associated with a German military officer. Where she obtained special permission to stay in her apartment in the Ritz Hotel, and after the end of the war, Chanel was interrogated about her relationship with the German officer, but she was not charged with treason, but some still view her relationship with the Nazi officer as a betrayal of her country, and she spent some years In Switzerland as a relief.
