A strange reason for the accumulation of fat around the abdomen

Many people suffer from stubborn fat accumulated around the abdomen, which is very difficult to get rid of, wondering about the reasons that lead to this.

Although these causes are many, one of them may be easy to avoid.

A new study has found that people who do not get enough sleep tend to eat more food, which in turn turns into deep belly fat, according to research conducted by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in the United States, and its results were published in the journal “ American College of Cardiology".

Close association with heart disease

She explained that lack of sleep with free access to food leads to an increase in calorie consumption and the accumulation of fat, especially those harmful fats inside the abdomen.

It also confirmed that not getting enough sleep led to a 9% increase in total abdominal fat and an 11% increase in visceral fat, the fat deposited deep in the abdomen around internal organs that is closely linked to heart disease.

It also confirmed that in the long term, insufficient sleep leads to epidemics of obesity, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The importance of proper and full sleep

In turn, Naima Kovacin, a specialist in cardiovascular medicine who led the study, explained that the accumulation of visceral fat was only detected by CT and it could have been missed.

She also noted that the increase in weight was very modest (only about a pound - 0.45 kg).

The study stresses that more research is needed to determine how these results in healthy young people relate to people at higher risk, such as those who are already obese, or those with metabolic syndrome or diabetes.

She also stressed the need to adhere to the hours of sleep necessary for a healthy body, which is estimated at 8 continuous hours, from the beginning of the night until the day.
