Deadly nail polish!!!!

Not only is color beautiful, but a new study reports that although nail polish manufacturers are starting to cut out some toxic ingredients, the labels on their products aren't always accurate.

At the beginning of this century, nail polish manufacturers began gradually eliminating three toxic chemicals from nail polish: formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate. But these chemicals have been replaced in many products by another substance, triphenyl phosphate, which is also potentially toxic.

The team of researchers indicated in their study, which was published in the "Journal of Environmental Science and Technology", that the European Union banned the use of this substance in cosmetics in 2004.

The team also said that the US Food and Drug Administration requires companies to write ingredients on nail polish, but does not require that the product undergo tests to verify that it is safe for use before it is put on the market. The researchers added that certain chemicals could be listed on the labels as "perfume", without giving further details about them, for reasons of industry secrets.

Anna Yang, the study's lead researcher, from T. H. Chan Public Health” in Boston, in an interview with “Reuters”: “It is especially important for salon workers, because some of these toxins are associated with health complications related to fertility, thyroid problems, obesity and cancer.”
