What is the secret behind gypsum injected in Egypt?

Egyptian Representative Ahmed Heta, a member of the House of Representatives from Minya Governorate, submitted a request for a briefing to the Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Health to discuss it with the Health Committee of the House of Representatives about the rumor of watermelons injected with hormones that cause cancer, or what was called in the media “carcinogenic watermelons”, a rumor that has spread Significantly and raised terror among Egyptians, especially on social networking sites.

The Egyptian MP continued, according to what was reported by the "News Gateway" of press statements, that there are watermelons that are sprayed with pesticides in order to speed up their ripening and put them on the market, but the rumors went beyond the matter that there is a "carcinogenic watermelon" or causes cancer.

The representative called for the presence of ministers and officials before the Health Committee of the House of Representatives to respond to the truth of what is being circulated about the matter, and the presence of watermelons that cause cancer, pointing out that the watermelon crisis “injected” or sprayed with pesticides - as he put it - is present in the markets and has been previously warned.

Heta added that the Chambers of Commerce, specifically the “Vegetables and Fruits Division” in the Cairo Chamber, confirmed the existence of corruption in some watermelons offered in the markets as a result of poor storage by a large number of traders.

He pointed out that the matter is also economically influential and has harmed merchants who offer good and non-corrupt watermelons, as purchases have decreased by a large percentage without selling, which leads to the corruption of already good watermelons and exposes them to damage, which leads to large losses, calling for confronting the matter and raising awareness with tightening control over the markets.

Heta emphasized that the data issued by some parties were insufficient and denied the existence of “carcinogenic watermelon,” a frightening expression that was used.

The MP stressed that the rumors took advantage of the corruption of some watermelons to launch exciting rumors, and the rumors must be confronted and the role of censorship should be emphasized in detecting any spoiled goods, vegetables or fruits, and that there is no evidence of the existence of any carcinogenic pesticides, noting that there is no Egypt has carcinogenic pesticides, and that there is strict control in this matter and that his demand is primarily aimed at revealing the truth to remove the fears of citizens.
