The death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and a life full of achievements

The Amiri Diwan in Kuwait announced, on Tuesday, the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

And the Kuwaiti Amiri Diwan Minister, Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, announced in a statement broadcast by Kuwait TV, the death of the emir, who had been treated in the United States since last July.

Earlier, Kuwaiti television had cut off its usual programs to broadcast verses from the Qur'an.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, 91, was admitted to a hospital in the United States in July for treatment, after he underwent surgery in Kuwait in the same month.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on him, was the fifteenth Emir of the State of Kuwait, and the fifth after the independence of his country in 1961.

He was educated at the Mubarakiya School, and completed his studies at the hands of private professors.

He entered political work and the field of public affairs in 1954 as a member of the Supreme Executive Committee, which serves as the Council of Ministers, then was appointed head of the Department of Social Affairs and Labor, and a member of the Construction and Reconstruction Council in 1955.

Four decades in which Sheikh Sabah witnessed major historical events in his country, the region and the world, until he was called the sheikh of Arab diplomats and the dean of Arab and Kuwaiti diplomacy at the time.

In 1992, he assumed the position of First Deputy Prime Minister alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also held the position of Minister of Information for various periods until he became the Prime Minister of Kuwait in 2003, and the Emir of Kuwait in January 2006.

In the same month, the members of the National Assembly unanimously pledged allegiance to him. Thus, he was the third emir to take the constitutional oath before the National Assembly in the history of Kuwait.
