In the first appearance of King Charles after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, the king commemorated his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, in his first message to the nation as King of Britain mark Christmas, and spoke of his faith in humanity at a time of “hardship and suffering.”
Britain's monarch said he shares "wholeheartedly" his mother's faith in God and people. King Charles was speaking from St George's Chapel, the final resting place of the late Queen and from where she delivered her Christmas message in 1999.

"It's about believing in the extraordinary ability in each individual to influence the lives of others, through goodness and compassion, to illuminate the world around them," Charles added.
Unlike Queen Elizabeth, who often sat at a desk to deliver the annual address, Charles stood by the Christmas tree in St George's Chapel, the chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle where his mother and father, Prince Philip, are buried.
